LORD'S DAY SNIPPET   5/24/2026
by H. Rondel Rumburg, ThM, DMin

Snippet #519 The Majesty of God’s Goodness

“There is none good but … God.”
Matthew 19:17

OUR ONLY HOPE.

I very recently finished one of the most appropriate discourses I have ever read regarding the current state of the United States of America. The title is, “THE DANGER AND HOPE OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.” It was delivered in 1843 by the famed pastor of the Presbyterian “Brick Church” in Albany, New York, Dr. GARDINER SPRING (1785-1873). With minimal alteration, it could have been presented exactly as it stands, in any pulpit in America this past Lord’s Day! Obviously, there is “nothing new under the sun,” as Solomon writes in Ecclesiastes. Everything he describes of the America of 1843 also describes the America of 2026; only the number of states and the population count being much greater than when he first spoke it. Numerous corrupting factors have been added to the mix since he spoke, e.g., Marxism, Darwinism, Theological Liberalism, aggressive “Green” and sodomite agendas, militant Islam, etc. but these have only served to prove both points: Danger and Hope. — The Discourse is easily viewed, downloaded and printed at the following LINK; please read it and pass it along, remembering that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).

A Biblical World View

“In the beginning God….”

A question that has profound implications is, “What is truth?”  This is a foundational question.  The sure foundation is the revealed will of God, which has been recorded in an inspired way in the Bible.  The special revelation of God (the Bible) is the only true source for such information!  God has revealed what is necessary for our living in His world.  This includes dealing with man when he is at cross purposes with God and creation.  Every attempt to define truth is limited and corrupted by minds distorted by the fall.  Such effects of the fall extend to the power of reasoning. All truth is God's truth, but the human understanding of what is true may not be accurate at all!

3/17/2025 The Five Points of Salvation, by Dr. H. Rondel Rumburg

Paul and the other apostles tell us that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, and that not of ourselves it is the gift of God, not of works lest anyone should boast (Eph. 2:8-9).

The Lord Jesus said, “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.” John 6:37-39

3/2/2025 Is Cremation Biblical?, by Dr. H. Rondel Rumburg

Amo 2:1-2  Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime:  (2)  But I will send a fire upon Moab, and it shall devour the palaces of Kerioth: and Moab shall die with tumult, with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet:

12/29/2024 Spiritual Check-up, by Dr. H. Rondel Rumburg

The astute care we take of things is called vigilance, whether it be with our yearly check-up with the dentist or some other physician who attends to a specialized need. “Vigilance is the state of being watchful and alert, especially to notice potential dangers or problems” [Cambridge Dictionary].

2/9/2025 Praying in Public, by Dr. H. Rondel Rumburg

The need for instruction on public praying is universal.  All Christians need help here. Why? There is the danger of dishonoring God and unduly honoring our fellows.  We must never address those about us in prayer for our heavenly Father alone should receive our prayers.  Remember in the Model Prayer the Lord Jesus taught His disciples to begin, “Our Father which art in heaven.”

But when life tumbles in, what then?, by Pastor Arthur J. Gossip

[This was the first sermon preached after my wife’s dramatically sudden death. Arthur John (AJ) Gossip, Beechgrove Church in Aberdeen, Scotland, 1927.]

“If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with the horses? And if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?” Jer. xii. 5
